Tipalti Accounts in Revelator: Understanding Payee vs Payor Setup

Modified on Wed, 17 Sep at 1:45 PM

In Revelator, Tipalti can be used in two different ways, depending on whether you’re receiving royalties from Revelator or paying your own payees.

This guide explains the difference so you can choose the right setup for your needs.

1. Payee Tipalti Account – Receiving Royalties

A Payee Tipalti account (sometimes called a “Supplier” account) is created when Revelator invites you to Tipalti. It’s used to receive royalty payments from Revelator into your own account.

With this account, you can:

  • View payments you’ve received
  • Update your bank, PayPal, or other payment details
  • Submit tax forms and update your personal or company information

Note: This account is only for receiving payments from Revelator — it can’t be used to pay your own artists, labels, or other partners.

How to set it up in Revelator:

  1. Go to Account → Payee Settings
  2. Select Tipalti as your default payment method
  3. Complete your address, payment, and tax details
  4. Wait for Revelator to verify your info before payments can be made

2. Payor Tipalti Account – Paying Your Own Payees

A Payor Tipalti account is separate from your Payee account. It allows you to pay your own artists, labels, or partners directly from Revelator using Tipalti’s integrated payment system.

With this account, you can:

  • Send payments to your payees without leaving Revelator
  • Have transactions logged automatically
  • Pay in multiple currencies and methods supported by Tipalti

How to set it up in Revelator:

  1. Go to Account → Integrations → Payments
  2. Select Tipalti and either connect your existing account or sign up for a new one.

3. Payee vs Payor – The Key Difference

A Payee Tipalti account is for receiving royalties from Revelator. It’s created when we invite you to Tipalti and is set up in Payee Settings. This account lets you update payment and tax details, view payments you’ve received, and manage your information, but it won’t let you send payments to others.

A Payor Tipalti account is for paying your own payees (artists, labels, or partners) through Revelator. It’s set up in Integrations → Payments and requires you to connect or create your own Tipalti Payor account. This account lets you run payments directly from the platform, with fees charged by Tipalti.

4. Which One Do You Need?

  • Just receiving royalties from Revelator?

Use a Payee account — set it up in Payee Settings.

  • Also paying your own payees from Revelator?

Use both a Payee account and a Payor account — set up both.

5. Additional Resources

If you’re paying others, you’ll likely need to work with your payees on connecting Tipalti and setting their payment preferences:
