All Revelator distribution clients in good standing are eligible for Spotify Discovery Mode submission.

What is Spotify Discovery Mode?

With Discovery Mode, artists and labels identify songs that are a priority for them, and the Spotify system will add that signal to the algorithms that determine personalized listening sessions. This signal increases the likelihood of the selected songs being promoted on Autoplay and Radio but does not guarantee it.

But it only works if fans love it too. Spotify takes note when a listener isn’t engaging with a song - including those in Discovery Mode - and factors this in when determining what to recommend next.

As a Revelator partner, you can now submit priority songs, and we’ll opt them into the Discovery Mode Campaign on your behalf.

Can I submit tracks for Discovery Mode via Spotify for Artists?

While a Discovery Mode section might be visible on your (or your artist's) Spotify for Artists dashboard, tracks distributed by Revelator cannot be submitted through this platform. If you continue to see this section, it's likely due to past partnerships with distributors who used this method, or because existing tracks are still distributed by them. Any remaining information in Spotify for Artists regarding Discovery Mode isn't connected to Revelator or the submission/reporting processes outlined in this article.

Revelator is a part of Spotify's Discovery Mode partner program, currently limited to selected licensors. The Partner program's main benefit is that it avoids artist eligibility restrictions found on Spotify for Artists, like needing a minimum of 25k listeners and 3 eligible songs. This means Discovery Mode is available for almost any eligible track in your catalog.

If Discovery Mode isn't active or doesn't appear at all on your Spotify for Artist Dashboard, there's no need to worry. Once you submit your eligible tracks, they will be included in the campaign as promised. You'll then be able to track their performance through the monthly performance reports you'll receive, as outlined in the relevant section of this article.

How many songs can I submit for Discovery Mode each month?

Revelator Launch or Growth customers can submit up to 10 tracks per month.
Revelator Scale or Enterprise customers can submit any number of tracks per month.

What happens if I submit a song, and It's not accepted?

If you submit a song through our form, and it is found to be ineligible, you will receive an automated email from us. This email will list the excluded songs and provide possible reasons for their exclusion, allowing you to investigate further.

How do I track the performance of my songs?

At the 1st week of every month, you’ll receive a performance report via email, which will include the results of the previous month's campaign. We plan to add this reporting to the RevPro Dashboard soon.

When and how do I submit my songs each month?

To be included in the following month's campaign, tracks must be sent to Revelator via the Spotify Discovery Mode Request Form by the 15th of each month.

Note: Song submissions sent via Revelator Support or direct email will be refused. The only submission method for this program is via the form.

How do I Opt-out a song once it is Opted-In?

To remove a track from the campaign, use the same submission form and select the Opt-out option.

Discovery Mode campaigns are monthly, but once you submit a track, it remains promoted on future campaigns until you choose to remove it (to Opt-out a song, use the Opt-out option on the submission form ).

What are the fees for this service?

Discovery Mode doesn’t require an upfront budget. Instead, a 30% commission is applied to recording royalties generated from all streams of selected songs in Discovery Mode contexts - Spotify Radio and Autoplay. All other streams of selected songs outside of Spotify Radio and Autoplay remain commission-free.

Revelator offers the submission service as part of our distribution, based on your licensing level.

  • Revelator Launch or Growth customers can submit up to 10 tracks per month.
  • Revelator Scale or Enterprise customers can submit any number of tracks per month.

Other details:

  • Accurate metadata, including track and artist URIs, is crucial. If you're unsure how to obtain these, please watch the tutorials in the submission form. Songs with incorrect metadata will be ignored by the submission system.

  • Songs for Discovery Mode must be distributed to Spotify via the Revelator distribution deal and released for at least 30 days before the month of submission. If your song doesn't meet these criteria, it cannot be submitted by Revelator for inclusion in this program.

  • Spotify recommends sending at least 2 songs per artist. While it's not mandatory, having only a single track from an artist can make it harder to attribute growth solely to the DM campaign, as other factors can also influence the results.
